‘Lovely Runner’, starring Byeon Woo Seok and Kim Hye Yoon, has made history as the first K-drama to see its scriptbook soar to the top of bestseller lists. Released on July 22, the script collection for this enchanting time-slip romance quickly captured the attention of readers, clinching the number one spot on Kyobo Bookstore’s bestseller list for the third week of July.Notably, while scriptbooks for popular films such as Park Chan Wook’s ‘Decision to Leave’ and Bong Joon Ho’s ‘Parasite’ have previously topped bestseller lists, this is the first time a drama scriptbook has achieved such a milestone.
The unprecedented success of the ‘Lovely Runner’ scriptbook reflects the drama’s widespread popularity. The pre-release buzz and enthusiastic fanbase contributed significantly to its stellar sales performance. Kyobo Book Centre reported that the scriptbook has been loved particularly well by women, who make up 94.2% of its readers. Women in their 30s represent the largest demographic, accounting for 34.4% of the audience.
‘Lovely Runner’, which aired from April to May, tells the story of Im Sol, played by Kim Hye Yoon, who travels back to her high school days and reconnects with idol Ryu Sun Kae, portrayed by Byeon Woo Seok. Determined to change their fates after foreseeing their tragic futures, Im Sol strives to alter their destinies.
The series’ fresh plot and the undeniable chemistry between its leads have enamored viewers worldwide, leading to top viewership ratings across 130 regions during its sixth week of broadcast, according to Rakuten Viki. Moreover, the drama’s success has also prompted Netflix to secure streaming rights, with ‘Lovely Runner’ set to premiere on the platform starting July 31 in India.
