Actress Mahima Chaudhry recently shared how a serious accident happened that nearly derailed her acting career during the shooting of ‘Dil Kya Kare‘ in 1999. She shared with Radio Nasha how she was left with 67 glass pieces removed from her face after a car crash while shooting for a morning shift in Bangalore. At the time, she feared that those injuries would affect her career.
Mahima recalled that she had pleaded with co-star and producer Ajay Devgn and director Prakash Jha not to let the news go public so easily. She feared that if news would come out that she had received an injury on her face; no one would allow her into their film and she would be boycotted by the whole industry. Luckily, Ajay and Prakash respected her decision, maintained silence over it, and she recovered well and got back to work.
Mahima said, “Those days, such an injury could be the end of a career. ‘Today, actors are highly praised for their strength, but then it was different. The actress said that she was even referred to as ‘scarface’ in a film magazine, but otherwise, the industry was supportive.
The actress spoke about how the accident had left her mentally and physically drained, despite having undergone several surgeries, she even did not gain self-confidence. However, it was Mahima’s fear that lingered and made her return to the silver screen, but she kept angling her face during her performances to conceal her scars.
Today, Mahima credits Ajay Devgn and Prakash Jha, saying that they stood by her side during such a trying time and helped her carry on with her acting career.
