While hosting the Democratic National Convention on August 21, Mindy Kaling gave a playful nod to Ben Affleck amid his fresh split from Jennifer Lopez, who just filed for divorce the day before. Talk about perfect timing for some celebrity drama!
From the stage in Chicago, Kaling made sure to give a special mention to her home state of Massachusetts. She expressed her love for the state, noting that while it often faces criticism, people just don’t understand its charm.

Born in Cambridge, Mass., Kaling then gave a nod to Boston’s legends, saying, “Go Sox! Go Jayson Tatum! And a shoutout to Ben Affleck—hang in there!”

The comedian also backed Affleck’s love for another Massachusetts staple, declaring, “Dunkin’ Donuts has the best coffee in the world!”

Her DNC speech, which featured appearances by Tim Walz, Bill Clinton, and Nancy Pelosi on Day 3, wasn’t the first time Kaling showcased her Affleck fandom. She also co-wrote the play Matt & Ben, celebrating Affleck’s iconic friendship with Matt Damon.
Recently, the spotlight has moved from Ben Affleck’s bromance to his romance with

J.Lo. In her divorce filing, she asked the court to deny spousal support to either party, with a source telling NBC News that the couple did not have a prenup.
The split puts an end to months of speculation about the couple, especially after Affleck was notably absent from the 2024 Met Gala, which Lopez co-chaired. At the time, his representative told E! News he was staying in Los Angeles to film The Accountant 2.
Despite his efforts to stay upbeat, Affleck recently revealed some of the key lifestyle differences that contributed to his concerns about the relationship.

Affleck previously discussed his struggle with media boundaries in J.Lo’s February documentary The Greatest Love Story Never Told, explaining that he had a strong stance against press intrusion, while J.Lo seemed more accepting of it.
Affleck noted that he initially asked for their relationship to stay off social media but soon realized it was an unrealistic expectation, comparing it to marrying a boat captain while disliking water. He acknowledged that they were simply two people with differing approaches learning to compromise.
