Actor Mohanlal QUITS AMMA Amid Hema Committee Report: Massive Shockwave Hits Malayalam Film Industry
The redacted version of the Justice Hema Committee report, which came out earlier this month, exposed troubling accounts of harassment, exploitation, and mistreatment of women in the Malayalam cinema industry. This has led to significant upheaval and scrutiny within the industry.
Mohanlal, who resigned alongside other AMMA leaders after allegations surfaced against notable figures including director Ranjith and actors Siddique and Mukesh, reaffirmed his support for the Hema Committee’s findings. He stressed that while AMMA cannot address every issue alone, the association is committed to cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation. He also noted that internal disagreements within AMMA will be resolved through upcoming elections, emphasizing that this is not an attempt to evade responsibility.
Highlighting the industry’s dedication and hard work, Mohanlal urged the public and media to avoid blaming the entire sector. He assured that those found responsible for misconduct will face appropriate consequences. “The investigation will proceed as planned, but we cannot provide an immediate solution,” he stated, acknowledging the complexity of the situation. Mohanlal pledged that AMMA and the broader Malayalam cinema community are committed to addressing the issues and making necessary corrections.
