In an interview with Faye D’Souza, Masaba shared an eye-opening experience about the unsolicited advice she received during her pregnancy.She recounted how someone recently suggested she eat a rasgulla daily to ensure her baby would be lighter-skinned. Additionally, her masseuse recommended consuming more milk to avoid the baby being dusky, delivered with an innocent tone. Masaba reflected on the awkwardness of these comments, acknowledging that confronting such advice isn’t always an option.
The designer also talked about the need to raise her child with resilience to face societal biases. She noted that while some comments may seem outdated or offensive, they still exist. She highlighted that even well-educated and wealthy people can hold such prejudiced views, showing that despite advances, these attitudes remain prevalent.
Masaba is the daughter of actress Neena Gupta and cricketer Vivian Richards. She married actor Satyadeep Mishra in January last year, and they announced they’re expecting a baby in April. Masaba and Satyadeep starred together in the Netflix series Masaba Masaba, which covers her life and career. The show had two seasons but has not been renewed for a third yet.
