‘Munjya‘ has proved to be a sleeper hit at the box office indeed. Without the presence of any big star, the film managed to grab eyeballs at the theatres with positive word of mouth and made a huge impact in terms of numbers. A movie like this, which is made on a moderate budget, with no big stars is almost inching closer to the Rs 100 crore mark now.
‘Munjya’ is running in cinemas still, and it’s been almost a month to its release. On its day 30, which is Saturday, the movie has made around Rs 65 lakhs according to Sacnilk. The total collection so far is Rs 97.65 crore net. This is the net collection and in terms of the gross, the film has already crossed Rs 100 crores. One hopes that the film crosses this mark by next week if it continues its hold at the box office.
A number of Rs 65 lakhs on Day 30 is considered good, more so, because at the moment, ‘Kalki 2898 AD‘ is dominating at the box office. Meanwhile, this week’s new release ‘Kill‘ has opened poorly. The film has managed to make around Rs 3 crore within its first two days of release. ‘Auron Mein Kya Dum Tha’ was also going to release with ‘Kill’ on July 5, but the makers postponed the release date as requested by the exhibitors and distributors as ‘Kalki’ is holding very well in theatres at the moment and none of the films should eat into each other’s business. The Ajay Devgn-Tabu starrer has the potential to bring in the audience at the cinema halls. This film will now release on August 2. So, a free window of sort, with only ‘Kalki’ dominating, further gave more space to ‘Munjya’ to bring in some numbers over the weekend.
Munjya is part of Dinesh Vijan’s horror comedy universe, directed by Aditya Sarpotdar.
