Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas and Deepika Padukone is clearly setting box office records across the globe. In just 5 days, the film has earned more than Rs 343 crores in India, and over US $ 11 million in North America. But, it was on the fifth day that the film witnessed its first major drop across languages in India, especially Telugu and Hindi.Since the release of the film, the film’s collection has been driven mainly by Telugu versions and by the end of the week, it was the Hindi version which picked up pace and began running shoulder to shoulder and even outpaced it by Rs 2 crores.
While the overall drop in the film was around 61% on Monday, its Telugu version dropped by nearly 63 % from Rs 38.8 crore on Sunday, to Rs 14.5 crore on Monday, while the Hindi version dropped by nearly 60 % from Rs 40 crore to Rs 16.5 crore.
On Monday, Kalki was trailing films like SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2- The Conclusion which till (their) first Monday had minted Rs 384 crore in 4 days, while Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan had earned Rs 380 crore in 5 days, and SS Rajamouli, Ram Charan and Jr.NTR’s RRR was at Rs 373.5 crore in 4 days .
On the other hand, director Nag Ashwin is gearing up for the second installment of the film, which will see him taking his mythological futuristic film ahead with Ashwatthama ( Amitabh Bachchan) and Bhairava/ Karan ( Prabhas) taking on Supreme Yaskin ( Kamal Haasan) and helping in the birth of Lord Vishnu’s 10th avtaar Kalki.
