Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 AD completes its North America theatrical run with Rs 155 crore collection Filmymeet

Nag Ashwin’s mythological sci-fi film Kalki 2898 AD starring Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas and Deepika Padukone has just completed its theatrical run in North America. In recent times, North America has turned out to be the biggest market for Telugu films outside of India, which can be witnessed from the success of films like Baahubali 2, RRR and Salaar: Part 1- Ceasefire. This craze for Telugu cinema is courtesy the growth of Telugu speaking audiences in the United States of America and Canada , with Telugu becoming the 11th most spoken language in the USA.

Kalki released on 27th June across the globe, and went on to rewrite box office records not only in India, but also in North America. In India, it went on the become the fourth biggest hit of Indian Cinema with a collection of over Rs 646 crore. In USA it became the highest grossing foreign film of the year beating the likes of Demon Slayer and Godzilla Minus One .
And now at the end of its run, the film has minted about Us $ 18.57 million, becoming the second biggest Indian film in North America. The film beat the likes of Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, Jawan, SS Rajamouli’s RRR, Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal and Aamir Khan’s Dangal to take the second spot. The No.1 rank is still being held by SS Rajamouli’s, Prabhas starrer Baahubali 2 with US $ 20.77 million.

Of the total collection, around US $ 14.95 million was contributed by USA screens with Telugu screens providing around US $ 12 million, and Hindi providing around US $ 2.5 million. In Canada , Hindi screens provided around US $ 2.6 million, whereas Telugu was around US. $ 767,000
In India, with the way Shraddha Kapoor’s Stree 2 is performing, a lot of records are at stake, which also includes Kalki 2898 AD’s. Stree 2 has received a free run for one more week, with the postponement of Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency because of censor issues.
