Post the success of Baahubali series, Prabhas has become a household name in the whole country. His films and the concept of Pan-India films go hand in hand, and with each release, his films are expected to set new box office records. Some succeed but some don’t. His latest release Kalki 2898 AD, directed by Nag Ashwin, has a stellar cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan and Deepika Padukone.
The sci-fi mythological futuristic film has set the box office on fire with Rs 95 crore day 1 opening; the biggest one in the history of Indian Cinema, with Telugu version leading from the front, contributing Rs 64.5 crore to the tally.
But when it comes to Hindi collection numbers, Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 AD paled in front of his past films like Adipurush and Baahubali 2.
Kalki managed to earn about Rs 24 crore on opening day, but it fell short against the numbers scored by Baahubali 2 which was Rs 41 crore and Adipurush, which was Rs 37.25 crore.
While one may argue that Baahubali 2 was a franchise, and Adipurush was technically a Hindi film, but in both these cases Telugu versions earned much more than their Hindi version. Baahubali 2 on Day 1 in Telugu earned Rs 58 crore, while Adipurush had earned Rs 48 crore.
However, Prabhas did manage to beat the numbers of his other two past releases like Radhe Shyam which had earned just Rs 4.8 crore in Hindi and Salaar: Part 1- Ceasefire, which had collected Rs 15.75 crore on Day 1 in Hindi.
Kalki 2898 AD is all set to cross Rs 100 crore mark in India within the next few hours and thus starts its journey to rewrite box office history.
