‘Kalki 2898 AD,’ starring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Disha Patani, Kamal Haasan, and others, has had its censorship formalities completed with just over a week until its release. The highly-anticipated sci-fi epic, helmed by director Nag Ashwin, is now ready for audiences.
On June 18, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ underwent censor screening, receiving a ‘U/A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification.The approved runtime of the movie is approximately 3 hours.
During the CBFC screening, the 3D version of the movie was showcased, leaving censor officials in awe of its groundbreaking visuals and Nag Ashwin’s visionary direction. Reports indicate that the film’s cliffhanger ending was well-received, prompting discussions about a potential second part of ‘Kalki’.
Reportedly, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ holds the distinction of being the costliest Indian movie ever made, with a budget of approximately 600 crores. Produced by Vyjayanthi Movies, the film is slated for release on June 27 across Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada, and Tamil languages.
Directed by Nag Ashwin, renowned for helming the National Award-winning 2018 biographical drama ‘Mahanati,’ the film features Deepika Padukone and Prabhas in their first collaboration. Additionally, Deepika and Amitabh Bachchan previously shared the screen in the 2015 film ‘Piku.’
In the film, Deepika’s character, introduced as SUM-80 or Maa, is pregnant with a child who is speculated to be Kalki. Bachchan’s character, Aswatthama, pledges to safeguard her child from Kamal Haasan’s character, Supreme Yaskin/Kali. Meanwhile, Prabhas plays Bhairava, a bounty hunter tasked with bringing her back to the complex from which she has probably escaped.
‘Kalki 2898 AD’ is set in a dystopian future where people in Kashi struggle to survive while resources are diverted to the Complex.
