After a 25-year wait, producer Ramesh Taurani has confirmed that a sequel to his hit film ‘Soldier’ is currently in the works.
Amidst buzz that a sequel to the 1998 film is on the cards, the producer said in an interview with New18, “We will begin shooting for the film next year.”
However, it remains uncertain whether both Bobby Deol and Preity Zinta, who made her Bollywood debut in the film, will reprise their roles in Soldier 2.Speaking to the portal, the producer admitted that the cast was not finalised. “It depends on how the story shapes up; we will take a call on whether Bobby and Preity will be a part of it,” Taurani revealed.
Reflecting on Preity’s debut, Taurani recalled that she was originally signed on for ‘Kya Kehnaa’ first, but she went on to be cast in ‘Soldier’ as well. The delay in the release of Kya Kehnaa was due to the scheduling conflict with the film ‘Kareeb’, starring Bobby in the lead. Looking back at their decision to change the release lineup, he added, “We didn’t want two films of Bobby releasing in the same month,” Taurani explained.
‘Soldier’ marked the beginning of a long and successful partnership between Taurani, Abbas-Mustan, and Bobby Deol. The film’s soundtrack, composed by Anu Malik, was a major hit, with songs like ‘Tera Rang Bale Bale,’ ‘Soldier Soldier,’ ‘Hum To Dil Chahen,’ ‘Mere Dil Jigar Se,’ and ‘Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aye’ becoming chartbusters. ‘Soldier’ was a massive commercial success, ranking as the second-highest-grossing film of the year after ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’.
Turani recently released the sequel of ‘Ishq Vishk’ (2003) titled ‘Ishq Vishk Rebound’.
