Race 3‘ which released in 2018 starred Salman Khan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Saqib Saleem, Bobby Deol among others. There is this notion that ‘Race 3’ was a let down and did not do as well as the first two movies of the ‘Race’ franchise. However, during a recent chat with ETimes, producer Ramesh Taurani clarified this, and revealed that ‘Race 3’ had earned more money than the first two parts.
Taurani says, “Race 3 actually collected the maximum business than the first two parts. The first ‘Race’ did Rs 65 crore, the second one did 118 crore and ‘Race 3’ did Rs 180 crore. Because it was Salman Khan’s film, the expectations were higher and it didn’t cross Rs 200 crores, people thought the film didn’t do well. Salman is a mass hero and if his film does slightly less business, toh log ungli uthaane lagte hai (people start pointing fingers).”
The producer had earlier said that Saif Ali Khan was upset about being replaced by Salman in the ‘Race’ franchise. He had told News18, “Saif was a little upset, but after ‘Race 2‘, the poor guy had a series of flops and Race is an expensive franchise, it just didn’t make sense (to cast him in Race 3). It was a business decision, nothing personal. He’s a very good actor.”
Taurani had justified himself by saying that they needed a bigger star for this kind of a film, in order to take it a notch higher. ‘Race 3’ was directed by Remo D’souza. At the moment, ‘Race 4’ pre-production is underway. Ramesh Taurani told us, that the film may go on floors next year, but more details on the cast is still awaited!
