Superstar Rajinikanth is experiencing an exciting phase in his career. After the massive success of Jailer, which grossed over Rs 600 crore globally, his fans are eagerly awaiting his next collaboration with Lokesh Kanagaraj for Coolie. Meanwhile, his latest release, Vettaiyan, a police procedural, directed by TJ Gnanavel, has been holding on strong at the Indian box office.

The film minted Rs 122 crore in the first week, it opened with a bang, but post the weekend, the collection dropped with each passing day.On its second Friday, the film hit its lowest collection of Rs 2.6 crore, but on Saturday, the collections jumped by nearly 64 % to collect Rs 4.25 crore as per early estimates by Sacnilk. The total collection of the film now stands at Rs 129 crore and by the end of the day, the movie will be closer to Rs 133 to 134 crore. Despite the film staying afloat in the second weekend, the film is nowhere close to Rajinikanth’s last film Jailer, which had collected Rs 235 crore in the first week itself, while Vettaiyan will struggle to reach Rs 150 crore.
Vettaiyan features an impressive ensemble cast, including Rana Daggubati, Fahadh Faasil, Manju Warrier, and Ritika Singh in pivotal roles. The film also marks a significant reunion between Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan, their first collaboration in 32 years, since they last shared screen space in Mukul S. Anand’s Hum.

Rajinikanth recently underwent a non-surgical procedure to address swelling in his main blood vessel connected to his heart; he is expected to start shooting for Lokesh’s Coolie in the next few days. In the film he will be seen with Nagarjuna, Upendra, Sivakarthikeyan and Shruti Haasan.
