Actor Rajkummar Rao who is currently enjoying the success of her recently released ‘Stree 2‘, recalled how during the release of ‘Badhaai Do‘, the LGBTQ community was unhappy that cishet actor was cast in a queer role.
During his conversation with News 18, Rajkummar Rao shared that when the trailer of ‘Badhaai Do’, released, there was initial disappointment from some in the LGBTQIA+ community regarding a straight actor portraying a queer character.
However, he noted that once the film was released, those same individuals reached out to him personally, expressing their happiness with his performance. They felt a strong connection to the character and appreciated that the film was respectful and aimed to positively represent the community rather than mock it.
In the same interview, Rajkummar Rao discussed the variety of roles he has taken on throughout his career, emphasizing his intention to avoid being typecast. He mentioned that he consciously selects diverse characters, saying, “I want to explore every genre-comedy, drama, biopics, horror-comedy, action- why not? I don’t want to limit myself to a particular kind of cinema.” Rao added that challenging himself with different roles drives him as an actor and keeps his passion for the craft alive.
Meanwhile, Rajkummar was recently seen in the hit film ‘Stree 2, sequel to Stree, alongside Shraddha Kapoor. The film crossed Rs 386 crores in India and surpassed the Rs 500 crore mark worldwide in just 11 days
The film, directed by Amar Kaushik, was released in theatres on August 15. Akshay Kumar and Varun Dhawan have special cameos in the film. Stree was released in 2018 and was declared a hit.
