Ram Gopal Varma slams Indian directors for making star-driven films: 'In Hollywood they make Oppenheimer, we make Thugs of Hindostan' | Filmymeet

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma criticized Indian directors for underestimating their audience’s intelligence by focusing on star-driven ‘proposal films.’ He praised Hollywood directors like Martin Scorsese, Christopher Nolan, and Clint Eastwood, who create deeply personal stories and skillfully unite star-studded casts to deliver masterpieces like Oppenheimer.
When asked about Hollywood directors continuing to thrive into old age and adapt to evolving trends, RGV highlighted the realism and effectiveness in their work.He noted that directors like Scorsese and Eastwood choose intriguing subjects and deliver outstanding performances, attributing their success to a personal attitude that deeply influences their films.

RGV criticized the Indian film industry for its lack of ambition, suggesting that it often underestimates the audience. He contrasted Hollywood’s high standards—where top stars collaborate on projects like ‘Oppenheimer’—with Bollywood’s approach, exemplified by star-studded but less impactful films like Thugs of Hindostan.
