The news of the release of ‘Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama’ in India during the festive season in October came as a sweet surprise for the cine lovers. However, now it seems the Indian audience will have to wait a little longer.
The distributors of the movie announced on Friday that with the intent of reaching a wider audience, the release date of ‘Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama’ has been pushed from October 18, 2024, to a later date.
They took to their social media handle to share the news. Here’s what their post read – “Geek Pictures extends its heartfelt gratitude to the people of India for the overwhelming love and encouragement shown for Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama In response to the incredible enthusiasm from fans nationwide, we have decided to adjust the film’s release date from the previously scheduled 18th of October to a new date in the near future. This decision reflects our commitment to ensuring that this iconic masterpiece reaches every corner of our vast country,” the company said in a letter, posted on its official Instagram page.”

Geek Pictures India said the movie serves as an example of friendship between different cultures. Talking about the movie the distributor said, “We are honored to present this cultural artifact from Japan to its spiritual home. We will soon announce a new release date that aligns with our vision of widespread accessibility.”

‘Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama’

Directed by Yugo Sako, Ram Mohan, and Koichi Sasaki, ‘Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama’ starred Arun Govil as the voice for the character of Lord Ram, Namrata Sawhney for Mata Sita and the late Amrish Puri lent his voice to Raavan. Further, veteran actor turned politician Shatrughan Sinha served as the narrator.
In 1993, the movie was screened in India at the 24th International Film Festival of India (IFFI); however, it didn’t make it to the theatres. Later, in the early 2000s, its re-runs made it popular in India.
