Ranveer Singh or Diljit Dosanjh: Who will lead Akshay Kumar's 'Singh is Kinng' sequel? Find out here

A sequel to the beloved 2008 action-comedy ‘Singh is Kinng’ is set to begin production in 2025, with Ranveer Singh and Diljit Dosanjh emerging as the leading contenders for the lead role. The original film, which starred Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, remains a fan favorite. Filmmaker Shailendra Singh has now confirmed that work on the sequel has started. In an exciting reveal, he shared that both Ranveer and Diljit are at the top of his list to headline ‘Singh is Kinng 2’, raising anticipation for what promises to be an action-packed follow-up.

In a recent interview with Midday, Shailendra Singh revealed that he had originally given the title of Singh is Kinng to Akshay Kumar but later requested it back when he decided to create a sequel. He confirmed that the title was returned to him three years ago. Shailendra shared, “I have started the process of ‘Singh Is Kinng 2’. I will begin production in October 2025 so that I can release it in 2026.”
Discussing the motivation behind ‘Singh is Kinng 2’, producer Shailendra Singh explained that sequels and remakes are currently in vogue. He hinted that the final title might be either ‘Singh Is Kinng 2’ or ‘Singh Is Kinng Returns’. Shailendra also revealed that the protagonist would not retain the name Happy Singh from the original film, as a new character would be introduced. When it came to casting the lead, Shailendra shared that Ranveer Singh was his first choice, having already reached out to his team. “His energy, cheekiness, and fun align perfectly with the character,” he noted.

Shailendra Singh added that if things don’t work out with Ranveer, Diljit Dosanjh would be his second choice for the lead role. The filmmaker also expressed his desire to have either Priyadarshan or Anees Bazmee direct the sequel. Anees Bazmee directed the original ‘Singh is Kinng’.
