Talking about postpartum weight gain, Rupali Ganguly said, “Your waist goes from 24-25 inches to 40 inches.”

The postpartum period can be a challenging time for many women. As they navigate the physical changes in their bodies, they also shoulder the responsibilities of caring for a newborn. This combination, coupled with societal pressures, can often lead to body image concerns and feelings of self-doubt. Recently, Anupamaa fame Rupali Ganguly shared about suffering from body image issues after her pregnancy and how it made her feel “lesser about herself.”

During an interview with Brut India, Rupali Ganguly opened up about the difficulties of body image, parenting and self-acceptance that women face after having a baby. She said, “You start feeling lesser about yourself, not because someone says it, but because you start believing it.”

While talking about postpartum weight gain, she said, “Your waist goes from 24-25 inches to 40 inches. People say things like, ‘Oh, you’ve gained so much weight!’ and it really hurts, especially when you’re already battling postpartum changes.” The actress mentioned how her husband Ashwin was a huge emotional support during this sensitive time. She highlighted how he never criticised her nor made her feel ugly, because of the weight gain.

Previously, the actress also opened up about her challenge while conceiving during a candid chat with Anupamaa’s production company, Directors Kut’s YouTube channel. She revealed that she was told she wouldn’t be able to conceive. However, her belief in God and prayers helped her become a mother.

Sharing her thoughts, she said, “I had gone to the best of Gynaecologists, and I was told would not be able to have a child. My belief in my Mata Rani, Vaishno Devi, is so so strong. Jo maangti hu mai zidd karke maangti hu or woh mujhe de deti hai, pata nahi, sach mey maa hai who. (My belief in Mata Rani is so strong, she answers all my wishes. I feel she is a true mother.)”

Rupali who had taken a break from television made a powerful comeback with Anupamaa. The show has been leading the TRP charts since its debut in 2020. Before Anupamaa, Rupali Ganguly was remembered for her role as Monisha in the iconic sitcom Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai.
