Saif Ali Khan, son of legendary cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and iconic actress Sharmila Tagore, recently shared the reason behind opting for acting instead of following in his father’s cricketing footsteps.
During an appearance on The Kapil Sharma Show, the Devara actor revealed that while many believed he inherited his cricketing ability from his mother’s side of the Tagore family, he never felt a strong mental connection to the sport.
Saif explained, “I didn’t have the mental focus required for a sport like cricket when I was young. It didn’t sit well with me mentally.” Despite the familial legacy, Saif realized early on that acting was his true passion. “I love this profession, and I believe choosing acting was the right decision,” he stated.
When asked whether his son, Ibrahim Ali Khan, seeks his guidance about a career in Bollywood, Saif shared that Ibrahim, who is yet to make his acting debut, does not often ask for help. However, Saif mentioned that his daughter, actress Sara Ali Khan, frequently turns to him for advice. “She brings me scenes and asks me to read them with her, looking for feedback. Maybe in the future, I will do the same with Ibrahim.”
On the work front, Saif recently starred as the antagonist in Devara, alongside Jr NTR and Janhvi Kapoor. Released on September 27, the film has been receiving mediocre reviews from both critics and audiences. Although Saif’s portrayal of the villain has particularly garnered praise, the audiences are calling it an underwhelming outing from the ‘RRR’ actor.
