Samantha Ruth Prabhu is being more mindful about the roles she chooses, focusing on characters that truly reflect women in today’s world. She’s stepping away from “flower-pot” roles and is particularly proud of her character, Honey Bunny, in Citadel.
Samantha shared with Business Today that she believes audiences crave authenticity and wants everything she associates with to reflect her true self. She feels a strong sense of responsibility when choosing roles, ensuring they offer a fair representation of women in today’s society.
The actress expressed that women are often misrepresented in films, with their roles being defined by male characters rather than showcasing their own journeys, strengths, and weaknesses. She emphasized that women are typically defined by their relationships instead of their personal experiences. As a result, she has made a conscious effort to choose roles that truly represent women and align with the brands she supports.
Samantha shared that in Citadel, her character holds her own in action scenes, delivering as much as the hero and being given an equal playing field, which is rare for women in the genre. She also noted that the number of roles she’s offered has become fewer as a result of her conscious decision to avoid “flower-pot” roles.
