Re-releases of classic films have become a growing trend in the film industry, particularly as theaters seek to attract audiences in a post-pandemic world. This resurgence is fueled by nostalgia, allowing older generations to revisit their favorite films while giving younger viewers a chance to experience iconic cinema on the big screen for the first time.In an interview with India Today, Sanjay Gupta addressed the trend of re-releases and stated that if he were to re-release any film of his, it would surely be ‘Kaante’.
‘Kaanta’ featured an ensemble cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty, Lucky Ali, Mahesh Manjrekar, Kumar Gaurav, Namrata Singh Gujral, Rati Agnihotri, Rohit Roy, Isha Koppikar and Malaika Arora.
The filmmaker pointed out that a significant portion of the current younger generation, particularly those in their 20s, may have never seen ‘Kaanta’. He further added that the film is relevant even today, and stated that it has been ahead of its time when it was first released. He mentioned that his team often discusses how the film’s humorous dialogues could even lend themselves to meme culture, making it appealing to contemporary audiences.
