Sharmila Tagore says that Ranbir Kapoor starrer 'Animal' had misogyny more than violence, opens up on 'Laapataa Ladies': 'But a lot of women in the audience said...' | Hindi Movie News Filmymeet

Sharmila Tagore is known to break stereotypes ever since she started her career in the industry many decades ago. She is known for being iconic, strong and complete honest about her views. In a recent interview, the ‘Aaradhna’ actress shared her views about ‘Animal‘. She also reacted to Kiran Rao‘s ‘Laapataa Ladies‘ doing well when asked about the same.
Tagore said during a chat with Kapil Sibal that, “Beyond violence, there was misogyny. But there were a lot of women in the audience who said I want somebody to love me like that. Any film that runs a lot, you cannot rubbish it. You have to engage with it, try and understand it that what exactly is happening here.”
Reacting to this, Kapil Sibal further told the actress that Kiran Rao’s ‘Laapataa Ladies’ broke all the records. However, Tagore corrected him and said, “Only on OTT, not in theatres.” She further added, “It did well even theatrically as it was within the budget. Whereas Animal spent a lot of money and made a huge amount of money also and other films like that. There is that stark difference (in budgets) and it will continue. I don’t see it in the near future that it is going to change… So, the smaller films will also get their money back but not in the quantity that say a Ranbir Kapoor or a Ranveer Singh will bring.”
‘Animal’ directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga did a business of more than Rs 500 crore in India, however the film got a lot of criticism from many celebs and some sections of the audience.
