Bollywood actor Sidharth Malhotra, who portrayed the role of Captain Vikram Batra in the critically acclaimed film Shershaah, took to Instagram to pay tribute to the brave soldier on his birth anniversary.
Malhotra shared a photo of himself praying in front of Captain Batra’s statue, accompanied by a heartfelt caption that read, “Remembering Captain Vikram Batra (PVC), the real Shershaah, on his 44th birth anniversary.I’m grateful to have had the privilege of portraying him on screen. His bravery and spirit continue to inspire us all.”

Shershaah, directed by Vishnuvardhan, was a pivotal project in Sidharth Malhotra’s career. The actor received widespread acclaim for his powerful performance, with critics praising his ability to capture the essence of the legendary soldier. The film, which also starred Kiara Advani as Dimple Cheema, Captain Batra’s partner, was released in 2021 and went on to win the Special Jury Award at the 69th National Film Awards.
Last month, when Shershaah completed three years since its release, Sidharth Malhotra took to Instagram to share his memories and reflect on the impact of playing Captain Batra. In his post, he expressed the deep personal connection he felt with the role, calling it, “one of the most rewarding experiences” of his career. He had also shared a picture of Captain Batra, paying homage to the real-life hero whose story continues to inspire generations.
Captain Vikram Batra, who was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest wartime gallantry award, led the charge of his troops during the Kargil War in 1999. He passed away on July 7, 1999, while fighting Pakistani forces at the age of 24. His victory slogan, “Yeh dil mange more,” has become an iconic phrase that encapsulates his indomitable spirit and courage.
Shershaah remains a testament to the enduring legacy of Captain Vikram Batra, showcasing not only his bravery on the battlefield but also the emotional and personal aspects of his life.
