Luv Ranjan backed Wild Wild Punjab starring Varun Sharma, Sunny Singh, Manjot Singh and Jassie Gill, directed by Simarpreet Singh is enjoying a steady run on Netflix. The film has been in the Top 10 Movie list since its release. The film revolves around a road trip taken by 4 friends as one of them ( Varun Sharma) goes through his breakup and wants to tell his girlfriend that he’s over her.
Varun is popularly known for her ‘Choocha’ act from the famous Fukrey series, and in one of the sequences in Wild Wild Punjab, one could see a homage being paid to the famous character by Varun himself. In the film he sets a Toll Plaze on fire by urinating on it- a trope picked up from Fukrey 3 which released last year. Talking about it in an exclusive interview with ETimes, director Simarpreet said, “ So ours is a fun film so I wanted to have a connection with the universe these boys already belonged to. So it wasn’t like Varun was talking like or behaving like ‘Choocha’. The idea was we stay in my universe, and also give a recall as you celebrate the other universe as well. In fact, the director of Fukrey series Mrigdeep Singh Lamba knew about it…I had informed him about it, and he was very cool about it. It is fun when people want to bring their universe together, and give a bigger experience to the audience .”
Simarpreet also shared that the sequence was also Varun’s favorite sequence in the film.
Simarpreet also shared his experience of working with four men on the film, he said , “ Most of the time when different people come on a film set they don’t know each other , so they are very particular about work and limit conversation to hi and hello etc, but these 4 knew each other in and out . At one point it felt like we just asked 4 friends to come, and act their life in front of the camera and controlling these four was a challenge for me as a director. It was the fun part of the day but also a task .. I didn’t want to stop them, as it keep them in the zone and it helped as a director.”
