Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal tied the knot earlier this year. The couple chose not to have any pre-wedding events and to have a small, private ceremony followed by a reception. Indian weddings typically last many days, but Sonakshi recently disclosed why she didn’t want a lavish wedding. The actor revealed that she vowed to her mother Poonam that she would never marry in that style after seeing her brother Kussh‘s wedding.
During a conversation with Galatta India, when Sonakshi was questioned if there was any pressure to have a ‘big fat Indian wedding’. To which, the actor shared, “There was pressure but we were very clear on the kind of wedding that we wanted and in fact, if you go back a few years and go to my brother’s (Kussh) wedding, it was huge. There were like 5,000 people or 8,000 people at any function. The first thing I told my mother was meri shaadi vaise nahi hogi (my wedding won’t be like this).” Kussh tied the knot to Taruna Agarwal in 2015.
Sonakshi further added that she was very specific and explicit about how she wanted the event to be conducted. She emphasized that this day is a unique and significant occasion in her life, and she wanted it to be carried out according to her preferences. Her friends and family graciously complied with her wishes.
The actor claimed that some of his friends wanted additional functions and were not pleased with this. She stated, “Some might not have been too happy like you saw Huma said ‘we wanted more functions’. My best friend and stylist Mohit said ‘I want to give you five outfit changes’ so he is very upset with me that I only did one change.”
Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal had a registered marriage at their residence. The following evening, they hosted a wedding reception that was attended by many celebrities. Zaheer added, “There was no pressure but I think they just expected us to have many functions.”
After seven years of dating, Sonakshi and Zaheer got married. Her brother Luv was not there at the celebrations, but her brother Kussh was present at the reception.
