Fans were devastated by the news of South Korean actress Kim Soo-mi’s passing, which circulated on social media. The veteran actress died from a cardiac arrest at the age of 75.
According to the reports, earlier in the morning, Kim Soo Min’s son found her unconscious in their home and rushed her to Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital. She was pronounced dead at the emergency room. The Seoul police were investigating the case.
Kim had experienced health problems in the first half of the year. She had been hospitalized twice, once in May for the problem with fatigue and once again in July. She had to take some leave from work to be perfectly alright. She was acting in the play ‘My Mother’ when she was hospitalized.
Kim started her acting career in 1970, after having emerged victorious from a talent show, but most notably became popular for playing the role of a septuagenerian mother, while she was still in her thirties, in the popular drama series running for over two decades ‘Country Diaries‘ (1980-2002). Throughout her career, she has been featured in a number of films and television series, amongst them being ‘Barefoot Ki-bong’ (2006), ‘Late Blossom’ (2011) and ‘Incarnation of Money’ (2013). Last year, she acted in the comedy film ‘Family Glory: Returns‘, which is a part of the ‘Marrying the Mafia’ series.
Kim’s last film project was the movie ‘Ghost Police‘ to be completed. This project was a reunion for her with former co-star Shin Hyun-joon after more than a decade. Besides an acting career, Kim was also famous for her good cooking, and she frequently appeared on food shows such as ‘Mother’s Touch’ and ‘Soomi’s Side Dishes’.
We tend to extend our condolences to the family and friends of Kim Soo-mi. Rest in peace.
