The stars of the much-awaited film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Wicked came out together on November 9, 2024, According to a report in The People. The event happened at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles and gathered the original cast members from the stage version and those who would feature in the new film, bringing both generations under one roof.
Jon M. Chu directs the film adaptation, which stars legendary duo Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel originally played Glinda and Elphaba. The four women attended the event where they took photos to celebrate the occasion as a once in a lifetime get together, but a celebration of the legacy that is being created by Wicked. Other cast members who attended the premiere included Jeff Goldblum, Marissa Bode, Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, Ethan Slater, and Bronwyn James.
Even though most of the creatives involved in making the film walked the red carpet, there was no Jon M. Chu to present his movie. In fact, Chu had to miss the premiere since he would like to spend some quality time with his wife before their fifth child arrives. However, the hype and eagerness of people to catch the adaptation of the 2003 Broadway hit, itself inspired by L. Frank Baum’s . The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, reached fever pitch from fans to celebrities.
Wicked tells the emotional history of the Wicked Witch of the West by turning the story of Elphaba Thropp, the misunderstood young woman carrying green skin and magical powers. At Shiz University, she also finds an unlikely friend in Glinda, a cheerful and popular young aspiring witch. As they face challenges coming from outside, a bond develops between the two women-by all indications that the complicated relationship, which is to be developed in Oz, will subsume much of the play.
The standout from the shoot are memories of newcomer Marissa Bode, who played Nessarose, the sister of Elphaba. She said: “Kindness was exhibited throughout the shoot. I recall Erivo baked cookies for the actors, vegan and gluten-free options. All the leading ladies contributed to the evolution of their characters by actively engaging with the production designer to bring the set alive,” added Bode in People’s special wicked issue.
Wicked, split into two parts, will make its first installment in theaters from November 22, 2024. The world premiere of the film is significant for both and their stars since fans have long been abuzz watching where this iconic musical next goes.
