‘Stree 2’ director Amar Kaushik weighs in on Shraddha Kapoor-Rajkummar Rao credit debate: “I won’t call it a female-centric film” | Hindi Movie News Filmymeet

Stree 2, the much-anticipated sequel to the 2018 horror-comedy hit Stree, has captured audience attention with its unique blend of humor and thrills. With a stellar cast and engaging storyline, the film has sparked discussions about its themes and character dynamics, particularly regarding gender representation.
Amid a growing debate over the star power of Stree 2, director Amar Kaushik has addressed the ongoing credit war between fans of Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao.As the film continues to garner success, Kaushik emphasizes that the narrative should not be confined to a single star but rather appreciated as a collective effort.
Currently in London, Amar Kaushik reflects on the overwhelming success of Stree 2, urging his team and the wider Hindi film community to celebrate the achievement while remaining grounded. He acknowledges the hard work ahead, stating that the success should not lead to complacency. In an interview with Indian Express, he attributes the film’s triumph to the women in his life and the female audience who have embraced the film wholeheartedly.
Kaushik said, “The power women is attached to the film,” highlighting the significant role women play in both the narrative and its reception. He has been actively observing audience reactions in cinemas, particularly noting the laughter and enjoyment expressed by women viewers. This, he believes, signifies a victory for the film and its themes.
The debate surrounding the film’s leading star has intensified, with fans passionately arguing whether Stree 2 should be classified as a Rajkummar Rao or Shraddha Kapoor film. When asked about the film’s classification, Kaushik refrains from labeling it as female-centric, stating, “I would rather not call it that.” He emphasizes that while the female characters are indeed strong, the film transcends such binary classifications.
Kaushik elaborates that the narrative features female characters who take charge and save their male counterparts. He asserts, “I won’t call it a female-centric film, it is more. In the film, the female characters are stronger. We have a female saving the men in the film.” His films, including Bala, Stree, and Bhediya, consistently showcase robust female characters, which he believes is essential to the storytelling.
In addressing the question of who the star of Stree 2 is, Kaushik points to the film’s promotional material, which features a balanced representation of its cast. He emphasizes, “all the five of them are the stars of this film, their characters make the film. Others will come and go, but these five will be the soul of our film” He states that the film’s success is a result of the collective effort of the entire team, including the technicians who contributed their best work.
Kaushik concludes that every individual associated with the film is a star in their own right, underscoring the collaborative nature of filmmaking. Without the contributions of each person involved, he believes the film would not have achieved its current success.
