Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao‘s highly anticipated sequel Stree 2 is set to hit theaters on August 15, 2024, but it won’t be a solo release. The horror-comedy film will clash at the box office with Akshay Kumar‘s Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham‘s Vedaa.
At the recent trailer launch of Stree 2, producer Jyoti Deshpande addressed the upcoming box office clash.She acknowledged that such battles are often inevitable in the industry, saying, “There are only 52 weeks in a year. We don’t release films during Hindu rituals (Shradh), IPL, Ramdan, and if some Khan film is releasing or a big South Indian film is releasing that leaves us with only 20 weeks. The clash is bound to happen. So it’s survival of the fittest, the jungle law.”
Deshpande expressed confidence in Stree 2, stating, “We are coming with the feeling ki Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar”. This Hindi idiom translates as “the winner takes it all”, indicating the team’s belief in the strength of their product.
Stree 2 is the sequel to the 2018 hit Stree, which was a critical and commercial success. The first installment, directed by Amar Kaushik, was set in the town of Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh, and revolved around a female spirit who terrorizes the men of the town during the festival of Navaratri.
The sequel, which went on floors last year, once again features Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao in the lead roles, along with Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana, and Abhishek Banerjee. Director Amar Kaushik, who helmed the first film, is also returning for the sequel.
According to the producers, Stree 2 is going to be even bigger and crazier than the first installment. Producer Dinesh Vijan promised, “Stree 2 is bigger and crazier. It is my company’s most paisa vasool film. The trailer is just 10 per cent of what the movie is. Along with that, the script of Stree 3 is also ready.” Director Amar Kaushik also hinted at the possibility of a third installment, saying, “there is a possibility of Stree 3, 4 and 5. But we first have to see how much the audiences accept the upcoming film.” He added that the team has the story ready, and if there is demand from the audience, they will definitely make Stree 3. The film’s trailer has already generated a lot of buzz, with fans eagerly anticipating the return of the beloved characters and the continuation of the horror-comedy franchise.
