In a recent chat with Bollywood Bubble, Sukhwinder shared that AR Rahman was his gateway into the music world and revealed a deep connection with Shah Rukh Khan. Dive into his musical journey to discover more about this iconic artist.
Sukhwinder shared that Rahman was the one who introduced him to the world of music.
Reflecting on his early days, Sukhwinder recalled being just 19 or 20, immersed in the glamour of the industry while dressed in a red coat, white shirt, red tie, and blue jeans despite the summer heat. He mentioned that Rahman played a pivotal role in helping him explore music, perform live, and achieve his dreams in the industry.
The ace singer recounted that when he first met AR Rahman, the composer asked him to sing, and he performed the Punjabi song ‘Thaya Thaya.’ Impressed, Rahman encouraged him to continue and even provided his father’s harmonium when Sukhwinder mentioned needing one. He noted that despite the electronic nature of the music at the time, Rahman emphasized the importance of soulful, heartfelt singing. Sukhwinder’s performance was then sent to Mani Ratnam, who shared it with Gulzar. The next day, Sukhwinder recorded the song with Gulzar, who warmly kissed him on the forehead.
When asked which actor his voice most resembles, Sukhwinder Singh explained that while he has sung for various stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, and Ranveer Singh, he adapts his voice to the characters assigned by directors. However, he is often associated with Shah Rukh Khan because his voice was first featured on-screen with Khan. He noted that songs like ‘Chakde India,’ ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi,’ ‘Udi Udi Jaaye,’ and ‘Om Shanti Om’ were all distinct, reflecting different aspects of Khan’s on-screen persona.
