Talking candidly about his breakup with ex-girlfriend Camila Cabello, Shawn Mendes describes it as “brutal” to go through such a public breakup.
On the most recent edition of Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast, the 26-year-old “Why Why Why” is a guest and discusses handling a breakup in front of the world.
Really, I believe that Camila and I have managed to keep our private lives as secret as possible.Little flame of love for one another, because no matter how strong your mind is, when millions of people are commenting on something, it’s very difficult to avoid being impacted by it, convinced by it, motivated by it, and driven to either love or hate it because that’s just human,” Shawn started.
Shawn mentioned he tried not to let the sounds from outside affect him.
She and I, in my opinion, have worked incredibly hard to shield one another and our love, and I have gained a lot of knowledge about it. It is a component of it as well. Of course it is a part of it. Furthermore, there is no escaping that. I don’t really use social media anymore, if I’m being really honest,” Shawn admitted.
“I just feel that it’s too harmful to the relationship itself that I’ve become pretty strict on that part of it, you know, but it’s crazy, man,” he went on. “So I don’t really see or care what people say about my love life or my relationships.”
This isn’t a film.
This is how real life is. This is true love, and true love is hard and perplexing and has many highs and lows as well as breaks and stops. Therefore, you know, I genuinely feel bad for anyone who experiences it. “I just want to approach it as a celebrity and be really honest from the standpoint of this is what love is like for me, you know,” he continued.
In light of all the rumours circulating about their life, Shawn was questioned about how he manages to keep his relationship with Camila intact.
Great candour, together with excessive communication, is what I believe is best for us both,” he remarked. “I’m sorry if it came out that way, but I felt this way during this interview and said this thing, and I felt weird. You know, I love you, and that just instantly dispels any presumptions she or I might have based on anything. We’re both quite good at that, you know. I’m going to text her first. She’ll text me first of all. We simply consider ourselves to be good as long as we are. A significant portion of the noise is just noise, after all.
According to Shawn, none of them would write music about the other.
“None of us would ever step over the line, in my opinion. Each other is highly respected by us,” he remarked. “She’s an incredible human being who is incredibly understanding, thoughtful, and caring. I’m just lucky.”
