‘Thangalaan,’ starring Chiyaan Vikram, had its global theatrical premiere on August 15. The film initially garnered positive reviews and made a notable box office impact, earning Rs 76 crore in its first week. Although it faced a decline in earnings during the weekdays, the film saw a resurgence over the second weekend. According to Cinetrak, ‘Thangalaan‘ added Rs 2 crore on Monday, bringing its total earnings to over Rs 91 crore by day 12.Despite a strong start, the film is facing challenges in surpassing the Rs 100 crore mark.

The film’s producers had previously announced that ‘Thangalaan’ crossed the Rs 50 crore milestone on August 18, securing a spot among the top five highest-grossing films of Chiyaan Vikram’s career. It is now just two films away from becoming his highest-grossing movie. However, ‘Thangalaan’ has begun losing screens due to the impressive performances of ‘Demonte Colony 2’ and ‘Vaazhai,’ making the coming days critical for the period drama. ‘Thangalaan’ Hindi version is set to conquer theatres in the North from September 6 and a better response from the Hindi audience might boost the numbers.
Directed by Pa Ranjith, ‘Thangalaan’ explores the pre-Independence era and the history of the Kolar Gold Fields (KGF). The film stars Chiyaan Vikram alongside Malavika Mohanan, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Pasupathy, Daniel Caltagirone, and Hari Krishnan in key roles. The background score by GV Prakash Kumar has been highlighted as a significant enhancement to Vikram’s compelling performance.
