Actor Yuvraj Menda, who played the character of Dilton Doiley in Zoya Akhtar’s musical drama film ‘The Archies’, discussed his sexual orientation and if it had ever caused him any problems.
During a conversation with HT City, Yuvraj was questioned about what it is like being an openly gay young actor. He shared, “Life has been great. I am auditioning, so hopefully I will be acting more.Luckily, I got to work with Zoya Akhtar, and it was as normal an experience as it would be for anyone. And that’s how it should be, that’s what the LGBTQIA+ community wants the world to strive towards.”
June is celebrated as Pride Month, a global celebration dedicated to promoting justice and equal opportunities for the LGBTQ+ community. Presently pursuing his education overseas, Yuvraj Menda disclosed that he first came out to his friends and family when he was around 13 or 14 years old. The actor said, “I told my friends first, then I told my family. Touchwood, I attribute my ability to be candid about my sexuality to them.” shared the actor.
When asked if being gay had ever made it harder for him to find work, Yuvraj quickly said, “I can only speak for myself. I haven’t felt like it has been a hindrance. Luckily, I haven’t come across people who view it as that. I am grateful we are at a stage where we don’t see it as that.”
While aspiring actors typically remain in Mumbai to be available for auditions around the clock, Menda decided not to discontinue her education in the middle of her studies. He concluded by saying, “If I have to give a certain audition, I can do that sitting in university as well, my friends help me with dialogues and scenes.”
