‘The Sabarmati Report‘ which is based on the Godhra train fire incident released on Friday, November 15 and it had a dull opening but that was also expected for a niche film like this. Vikrant Massey’s ‘12th Fail‘ also had a similar opening day number but the growth then was much higher. ‘The Sabarmati Report’ also had a very limited release in about Rs 600 crores and it’s not a movie mounted on a very heavy budget. Hence, the opening number of Rs 1.25 crore was decent for this.
Meanwhile, it saw a growth of around 68 per cent on Saturday and furthermore on Sunday which is a great sign. The film also starring Raashii Khanna and Ridhi Dogra made Rs 2.1 crore on Saturday and Rs 3 crore on Sunday. Thus the total collection so far is Rs 6.35 crore net in India.
On Sunday, PM Narendra Modi had tweeted about the movie and that may lead to word of mouth and help in the collections over the next few days. The number from Monday onwards will be crucial.
Meanwhile, it’s the Diwali releases completely dominating the box office still. While ‘Singham Again‘ made around 7 crore total collection on its third weekend, ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3‘ collection Rs 11 crore as a sum total of its third Saturday and Sunday.
But with more positive reviews and word of mouth coming in, ‘The Sabarmati Report’ might just catch up the way ’12th Fail’ did and prove to be a winner at the box office.
