It’s the season of re-releases with films like Hum Aapke Hai Kaun!, Laila Majnu, and Veer-Zaara returning to theaters, but none have performed as well as Sohum Shah and Rahi Anil Barve’s Tumbbad, which saw only a slight drop in collections during its second week.

During its original release the film met with limited success but when the film dropped on OTT it connected with audiences in a big way and on many occasions the film would trend on social media with fans asking for the sequel.Cashing on the trend of old films being re-released and the amazing goodwill Tumbbad had generated, the film was released in theaters once again and the audiences lapped it up. The film went on to earn Rs 13.15 crore in the first week and in the second week the film added another 11.35 crore, taking the two week total of the film to Rs 24.50 making it one of the most successful re-releases of all times.

Tumbbad will remain one of those rare films which earned more money in its re-release than it ever did during its first run. Actor-producer Sohum Shah has now announced a sequel for the film, but director Rahi Anil Barve has bowed out of it has he already has his hands full with multiple projects like Gulkanda Tales with Pankaj Tripathi, Kunal Kemmu and Abhishek Banerjee which is being backed by Raj and DK. Also some time back he announced his next project which is Rakht Brahmand which reportedly has Aditya Roy Kapoor, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Ali Fazal and Wamiqa Gabbi also backed by Raj and DK.
