Sohum Shah’s 2018 folk horror masterpiece ‘Tumbbad‘ has made a grand return to the big screen, receiving overwhelming love from audiences. As the actor-producer basks in its renewed success, he opened up about his journey.
Sohum revealed that it was Shah Rukh Khan who inspired him to believe that even outsiders can break into Bollywood and carve out a name for themselves. In an interview with Pinkvilla, Sohum shared that while he’s eager to explore new ventures, SRK has been his key inspiration for entering the film industry. He mentioned that if King Khan hadn’t made the leap to Bollywood years ago, it would’ve been harder for people from various cities to realize that they too could become stars in the industry.
The Tumbbad actor expressed that if Shah Rukh Khan hadn’t entered the industry, it would have seemed like Bollywood was solely for those from Bombay. He emphasized that outsiders would not have felt welcomed or able to participate in the film scene.
He further mentioned that from a young age, he developed a belief that he could also succeed in the industry because of Shah Rukh Khan’s journey. Coming from Delhi as an outsider, Khan established himself, inspiring others like him to believe they could also pursue their dreams in Bollywood.
Shah revealed that Shah Rukh Khan expressed his appreciation for the Tumbbad trailer, even tweeting about it back in 2018. Recalling his encounter with his idol, Shah described Khan as akin to a deity, emphasizing how much he admires him. He reminisced about his eagerness to watch interviews featuring the Pathaan star and expressed that receiving praise from such a legendary figure felt like a “dream come true.”
In exciting news, Sohum Shah has officially announced Tumbbad 2 by sharing a teaser of the upcoming film on social media.
