Rajkummar Rao, Triptii Dimri starrer ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video‘ had released on Friday and it clashed with Alia Bhatt’s ‘Jigra‘. Both these films had a dull Friday, however, ‘Vicky Vidya..’ had a slight edge over the Alia starrer as it made a slightly better number. That’s how it remained over the weekend but both the movies hardly saw any growth. They did not even benefit much from the Dussehra holiday on Saturday.
After opening at Rs 5.5 crore on Day 1, ‘Vicky Vidya…’ made Rs 6.9 crore on Saturday, which was a growth of about 30 percent. On Sunday, it saw a slight dip than the Saturday numbers. The film made Rs 6.25 crore on day 3. Thus, the total three-day collection so far, of the opening weekend is Rs 18.65 crore, according to Sacnilk.
Meanwhile, ‘Jigra’ had a total collection of Rs 16.75 crore on its first weekend. The growth percentage of ‘Jigra’ was higher than ‘Vicky Vidya…’ on Saturday. However, the film is not a mass-oriented movie and is largely for multiplex centres hence it was expected that post the Dussehra holiday on Saturday, the Sunday numbers would be less.
The Navratri and Garba fever may also have affected the business of these movies as a huge segment of the audience, in many cities have preferred to go to play garba than visit a theatre and watch a film during the festive season. The theatres are clearly empty at the moment.
There’s no major release coming up till Diwali now, till ‘Singham Again’ and ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’ release. Hence, ‘Jigra’ and ‘Vicky Vidya..’ will get an open window till then and benefit out ot it. Meanwhile, the cult ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla’ is re-releasing in cinemas on October 18.
