Vijay Varma continues to impress his fans with a string of successful roles, showcasing his versatility and talent. In his latest project, he will play Captain Devi Sharan in Anubhav Sinha‘s mini-series ‘IC-814: The Kandahar Hijack‘. Scheduled for release on Netflix on August 29, the series also features Naseeruddin Shah, Kumud Mishra, Dia Mirza Rekhi, and Patralekhaa in key roles.
In an interview with News18, Vijay shared his excitement about the project and the challenges of filming. He noted that much of the shoot involved working with green screens, making him eager to see the finished product. He praised the screenplay, which includes a cockpit, an aircraft, and a large cast, but mentioned that he didn’t fully experience this world on set.
Director Anubhav Sinha’s series, based on true events, draws from the book Flight Into Fear: The Captain’s Story by Captain Devi Sharan, the pilot of the hijacked airline from December 1999. Vijay revealed he met Captain Sharan but chose to focus on Sinha’s vision for the series. Although he didn’t read the book, Varma worked closely with Sinha on the script to align with the director’s vision. Meeting Sharan was important for the actor to understand the man behind the story and gain insight into his personality.

While he didn’t aim to imitate Sharan, he sought to capture his essence. The top and middle notes of his performance reflect his own work, but the base note is rooted in Sharan’s character.
