Actress and playback singer Vijayta Pandit has opened up about her previous relationship with her first co-star Kumar Gaurav, the son Rajendra Kumar.
The duo became overnight sensations with their debut film ‘Love Story’ released in 1981. They were reportedly dating during the time, however, Kumar later got engaged to Raj Kapoor’s daughter Reema Kapoor. The engagement was shortlived as the couple called it off, sparking speculation it had something to do with the actor’s relationship with Vijayta.However, Pandit has now opened up to state that despite the rumours, she had nothing to do with that.
In a new interview with Lehren Retro, Vijayta recalled the time when she started shooting for ‘Love Story’ with Kumar and reminisced that she fell in love with the actor in real life. She added that with such movies one has to get into it and feel the romance. She stated that it was the ‘first time a boy was touching’ her and so she fell in love with the hunk was also called Bunty.
She added that Gaurav was very fond of her and would keep following her, holding her hands and dancing, however, his father and the film’s producer Rajendra Kumar were upset over their relationship. She revealed that it was Rajendra who decided to get Kumar and Reema engaged, after seeing his son falling head over heels in love with her.
She also revealed that she went to the engagement ceremony, and said that Kumar got angry when she complimented the huge diamond ring Reema ‘made him wear’. The actor reportedly told her that if she doesn’t like it, he was willing to throw it away.
Vijayta further claimed that Kumar came to her house even after the engagement, and even told her mother that he would marry only Vijayta, despite his engagement. She also added that she was unaware of what happened after that, and also got to know that contrary to rumours blaming her for the breakdown of his engagement, it was actually his affair with Namrata Dutt that led to the break up.

Meanwhile, Vijayta married Aadesh in 1990, and has two children. Kumar Gaurav on the other hand married Sanjay Dutt’s sister and daughter of veteran actors Nargis and Sunil Dutt, Namrata, in 1984.
