New Delhi:
The Sabarmati Report had a modest box office performance on its second day, with a slight growth in earnings. The film, directed by Dheeraj Sarna and starring Vikrant Massey, was the only major Bollywood release this week. According to Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 2 crore on Saturday, showing an increase from its Friday collection of Rs 1.25 crore, which marked the biggest opening for Vikrant as a lead actor. For comparison, Vikrant’s previous hit, 12th Fail, which released last year, opened with Rs 1.1 crore but saw a significant jump on its second day, earning Rs 2.51 crore – more than The Sabarmati Report’s day 2 earnings.
Produced by Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures, along with Amul V Mohan and Anshul Mohan, The Sabarmati Report is based on the real-life events surrounding the burning of the Sabarmati Express in Godhra.
The trailer of the film shows the ideological division between Hindi-speaking, ground-level journalists and their English-speaking, Western-influenced counterparts, with the political climate and media reporting of the tragic incident playing a central role in the narrative. The film also stars Ridhi Dogra and Raashii Khanna in key roles.
