Anushka Sharma once revealed her decision to turn down the role in Tamasha offered by director Imtiaz Ali, which ultimately went to Deepika Padukone. Anushka shared her thoughts on passing up the opportunity to star alongside Ranbir Kapoor, sparking curiosity among fans about her reasons behind the choice.
In a 2016 interview with ANI, Anushka candidly shared her reasons for declining Tamasha, revealing that she felt the storyline was overly centered on the male lead, portrayed by Ranbir Kapoor. She expressed that this focus ultimately influenced her decision to pass on the role.
The actress also shared that although she hadn’t watched Tamasha, she was confident that her performance would have been well-received had she taken on the role. She praised Imtiaz Ali, noting that any actor under his direction would shine due to his skill in bringing out the best in his cast.
At an Indian Express event earlier this year, Imtiaz Ali proposed an alternative ending for Tamasha. He suggested that Tara and Ved shouldn’t have ended up together, with Ved instead cherishing Tara as his lifelong muse. This approach, he hinted, might have deepened Ved’s personal journey.
The filmmaker mentioned that he thought of an alternative ending for Tamasha a bit late. In this version, Tara would continue to watch Ved’s performances without revealing her presence, emphasizing her role as his muse. However, he noted that the original ending had them performing together in the film.
