Priyanka Chopra and Akshay Kumar worked together in many movies when the actress started out her career initially. Be it ‘Andaaz’, ‘Aitraaz‘ or ‘Mujhse Shadi Karogi’, this was a hit on-screen pair. However, this chemistry on-screen also created rumours of them dating. Priyanka and Akshay’s rumours reportedly also did not go down well with Twinkle Khanna who Akshay was already married to, at that point in time. Hence, it was said that both, Priyanka and Akshay stopped working with each other.
In an old interview with Koel Purie, Priyanka was asked why she stopped working with Akshay. Reacting to it, she said, “May be it makes life easier. I never want to be a bone of contention in someone’s happy life.”
Recently, producer-director Suneel Darshan revealed in an interview that Akshay Kumar was the original choice for a film titled ‘Barsaat’ which starred Priyanka Chopra. But he backed out of the project and then Bobby Deol was cast. Darshan said, “Akshay Kumar was the hero of Barsaat. As the film started, he faced some ‘ajeeb sa problem‘ with his wife. Barsaat had already started shooting with Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra. The film was supposed to be shot in one schedule and five days before the schedule, Akshay called me and asked me to meet. While I was on the way to meet Akshay, Bobby’s manager called me and asked me to make a film with him. I told him to wait.”
He further revealed, “Kuch blunder aise ho chuke thay (He made some blunders). Rumours about Akshay and Priyanka were circulating, and Twinkle had left his home. As an actor, you have to be responsible. If your wife has been in the industry, she understands everything and has worked with big stars. She knew everything. Priyanka was right on her part.”
