The 1973 movie ‘Bobby’, featuring Dimple Kapadia and Rishi Kapoor in their debut leading roles, became a hit. Dimple was 16 and Rishi was 21 during the filming of this romantic drama. In an old interview, Rishi recalled a funny incident from the movie set with Dimple.
In a conversation with Movie Moth, Rishi shared a lighthearted memory from the set. He revealed that during the shoot, Dimple would arrive in an impressive imported car, proudly calling herself a star. Meanwhile, Amitabh Bachchan, who was filming ‘Bombay to Goa’ nearby, took note of her grand entrance. Kapoor chuckled as he recalled how Amitabh, who at the time drove a simple car, would humorously comment, “Your heroine comes in a huge car,” as Kapoor himself drove a beat-up simple one.
Rishi Kapoor puts to rest all ill-health rumours, says people assumed a lot different
The ‘Chandni’ actor admitted to playfully teasing his co-star Dimple, particularly about her luxurious imported car. Dimple would confidently remind them that she was Raj Kapoor’s heroine. “She used to tell us, ‘I am Raj Kapoor’s heroine. I am a star. If the film becomes a hit, I am a star, and even if it doesn’t, I am still a star. I travel in a huge car,’” he added.
Raj Kapoor initially auditioned both Neetu Singh and Dimple Kapadia for the lead role in his film. Ultimately, he chose Dimple Kapadia, despite Neetu’s mother Raaji’s hopes for her daughter to debut as a leading lady in Raj’s project. Film analyst Dilip Thakur earlier told Times of India that Kapoor declined Neetu’s casting due to her previous work as a child artist. The filmmaker wanted a fresh face for the movie.
