Salman Khan and Priyanka Chopra‘s relationship had reportedly strained after their film Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004). Over time, their bond was not that good and to the point where they decided not to collaborate on any future projects together. Earlier, In a 2011 interview, Salman referred to Kareena Kapoor Khan, his co-star in ‘Bodyguard’, as the original desi girl.This was widely interpreted as a dig at Priyanka, who had gained fame with the title of desi girl after starring in the song from ‘Dostana’ by Karan Johar.
At an award show in 2011, Priyanka Chopra’s spokesperson confirmed that she was unhappy with Salman Khan’s comments about her. Priyanka also made it clear that she did not want to talk about Salman. “Priyanka is not happy with the fact that Salman is taking jibes at her and this is not the first time that he has done that. She wants to stay clear of that,” her spokesperson had said.
Also, it was assumed they had patched things up and moved on. Priyanka was supposed to return to Bollywood with Salman’s movie Bharat, but she backed out last minute. Several reasons was cited for this but the most possible decision was her engagement to Nick Jonas and her commitment to a Hollywood film with Chris Pratt. While director Ali Abbas Zafar wished her all the best, several others were less than pleased and called her unprofessional. It was assumed that Salman shared similar sentiments.
However, at the Delhi trailer launch of ‘Loveratri’, Salman cleared that, “Uss waqt hum ko ye pata chalta ke unhone wahan par koi bahut badi film sign ki hai aur hume thoda pehla pata chalta to hum waise bhi usko kabhi rokte nahi, End moment pe pata chala, shooting ke 10 din pehle pata chala. Shooting shuru ho gayi thi meri, par unke schedule se 10 din pehle pata chala ki who picture chhodna chahti hai. We said of course, if you don’t want to do it, don’t do it. Uss waqt kuchh alag reason diye gaye the hame”.
Adding more to the conversation, Salman added, “Jo bhi reason hai, shaadi ka reason ho, ya picture ka reason ho, ya unko India main nahi kaam karna, ya mere saath nahi kaam karna, sirf Hollywood film aur TV show karna hai, wo unka reason hai.We are really happy and supportive about her doing good work. Agar yahan pe kaam nahi kare to kya hua, waha pe to who Hindustan ka naam roshan kar rahi hai. Agar Salman Khan ke saath kaam nahi karna, waha ke kisi bade hero ke saath kaam kar rahi hai to Hindustan ka naam to roshan hota hai na.”
Later, Salman and Priyanka patched up at Riteish Deshmukh’s birthday party and surprised everyone when they hugged it out.
