Simi Garewal is known to dish out some of the most candid interactions in her show, ‘Rendezvous With Simi Garewal‘. The actress turned host, was also known to ask some of the most personal questions to these actors, thus making them feel comfortable enough to be honest and show their vulnerable side. While Simi had a long list of celebs on her show, her interview with Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, is one of the most talked about, till date.Here’s reflecting on the time when Simi had spoken about the reactions to this interview and her experience.
She had confessed that it meant a lot that Amitabh Bachchan agreed to do that interview at the most difficult time in his life. This was during the time when Big B’s company ABCL was facing severe financial losses and his was not doing well career wise as well as most of his choices were being criticised. Yet, the actor agreed to do the interivew. During a chat with Rediff, Simi said that he was very vulnerable and dignified all through the interview. Thus, she wanted to make him feel safe enough to open up. She said, “We talked of everything under the sun. His childhood, adolescence, parents, ABCL, his flops, his return, his family, Jaya, the kids, the kind of women he likes, his professional decisions.”
She further added that there was a segement she did alone with him and then Jaya Bachchan joined in. Simi added, “Once Jaya came on to the sets, he was more comfortable, he was completely himself. Then the wisecracks began and the witty side of his personality began to emerge.”
Simi recalled the reactions on this interview where people felt Big B was not honest about his answer about Rekha. “I think he was completely honest. There are people who, after that interview, said, ‘Amitabh Bachchan is not like that!’ Or ‘He was not telling the truth about Rekha,” confessed Simi.
For those not in the know, when Simi had asked Bachchan about his link-up rumours with Rekha, he had said, “She has been my co-star and colleague. And when we were working together, obviously we met each other. Socially, we have nothing in common. That’s about it. Sometimes we bump into each other at a function, which is, you know, an award function, for example, or at a social gathering. But that’s about it.”
