In the 1990s, Govinda was the epitome of Bollywood stardom, captivating fans across India. So, when a fan had the chance to witness his idol up close during the filming of ‘Money Hai Toh Honey Hai‘ in Mumbai, he was thrilled. However, his excitement turned to shock when Govinda unexpectedly slapped him. What began as a dream encounter quickly became a nightmarish ordeal for Santosh.
The fan, seated behind the cast, found himself in a heated altercation with Govinda during the ‘Money Hai Toh Honey Hai’ shoot. The situation escalated quickly, culminating in Govinda slapping him. The incident was recorded by media and broadcast on television, leaving the fan stunned. “Imagine being struck by someone you revered as a god,” he told Rediff.

During an interview, the fan revealed he chose to file a case against Govinda after being falsely accused of misbehaving with a woman on set. He emphasized that in Mumbai, if someone were to mistreat a woman, she would handle it herself rather than seeking help from an actor. The case gained significant traction and reached the Supreme Court in 2014. The court remarked that while people enjoy Govinda’s films, they cannot condone his actions of slapping someone. Although Govinda’s lawyers offered a written apology and monetary compensation, the court stated that if the fan refused the apology, Govinda could face prosecution. The potential charges of criminal intimidation and assault could result in a two-year jail term for the actor.
