Aparna Soni requested to withdraw her plea in the Bombay High Court, which alleged that Ravi Kishan is the father of her daughter, according to India Today. The petition sought to dismiss an FIR filed against Soni and her family by Ravi Kishan’s wife, Preeti Shukla. The High Court responded to Soni’s request in writing and disposed of the petition on Friday.
On April 16, 2024, Preeti Shukla filed an FIR against six people, including Aparna Soni, her husband Rajesh Soni, and her daughter Shinova Soni, at Hazratganj police station in Lucknow. The complaint accused them of blackmail and threatening Ravi and his family, allegedly attempting to extort Rs 20 crore. Soni had earlier claimed that she and the actor briefly lived together, asserting he was the biological father of her daughter.
Soni, her husband, and daughter filed a plea in the Bombay High Court to cancel the FIR. However, since the FIR was filed in Lucknow, it is not under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
On Friday, the High Court bench, comprising Justices Ajay Gadkari and Neela Gokhale, acknowledged a letter from Aparna Soni to the court registry. In the letter, she stated her intention to withdraw the petition, citing concerns that its continuation could impact her ability to seek legal recourse in Uttar Pradesh.
The letter from Aparna Soni mentioned the involvement of two other petitioners. Her advocate stated that legal documents for all three had been returned and requested to withdraw the plea, citing its lack of maintainability. The bench allowed Aparna Soni to withdraw the plea based on these points.
Earlier in the week, Aparna Soni and her family were granted transit anticipatory bail for two weeks by another bench of the High Court. They intend to seek further protection from arrest in the case by approaching a court in Lucknow.
