Yesteryear actress Zeenat Aman has carved a niche with her acting journey in Indian cinema. In the 1971 musical drama ‘Haré Rama Haré Krishna‘, she played the iconic role of Janice, a ‘drug-addled’ character. To bring authenticity to the part, especially in the famous song ‘Dum Maro Dum‘, Zeenat took long pulls from a chillum of the hippies brought from the streets to feature in the scene.
The actress recently shared a captivating anecdote from her filming of the song ‘Dum Maro Dum on’ Instagram. She posted a photo of herself enjoying a puff during the shoot in Kathmandu. The actress recalled how her co-star, director, producer, and writer Dev Anand “rounded up a gaggle of hippies from the streets”. Committed to her role, Zeenat joined the hippies in “gamely taking long pulls from their chillum for take after take.” By the end of the day, she humorously noted that she was ‘high as a kite.’
In her Instagram post, Zeenat recounted her experience filming Dum Maro Dum. After realizing she couldn’t return to her hotel, crew members took her for a drive to a scenic viewpoint where she reflected on the Himalayas and came down from her high.
She also shared that her mother was furious when she found out about the incident, scolding the crew for allowing her to take drugs. Luckily, the actress avoided her mother’s aggression.
Talking about her work journey, she has appeared in numerous blockbuster films, including ‘Yaadon Ki Baaraat’, ‘Heera Panna,’ ‘Don’, ‘Dharam Veer’, ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’, and ‘Panipat’, among others. Fans are eagerly looking forward to seeing her return to the big screen.
