Mac Miller’s family revealed that Balloonerism will finally arrive on January 17 of next year.

Rapper and producer Mac Miller’s untimely death in September 2018, at the age of 26, shocked fans worldwide. He tragically passed away from an accidental overdose. Nearly four years earlier, he worked on an album titled Balloonerism, though it was never released—until now. In a recent announcement from his family, it was revealed that Balloonerism will finally arrive on January 17 of next year.
Fans can even pre-order it via balloonerism.com. “Many of Malcolm’s fans are aware of Balloonerism, a full-length album that Malcolm created around the time of the release of Faces in 2014,” Mac Miller’s family wrote in the post.
“It is a project that was of great importance to Malcolm—to the extent that he commissioned artwork for it and discussions concerning when it should be released were had regularly, though ultimately GO:OD AM and subsequent albums ended up taking precedence,” they added.
In their statement, the family mentioned that Mac Miller’s project showcases both his musical talents and fearlessness as an artist. “Given that unofficial versions of the album have circulated online for years and that releasing ‘Balloonerism’ was something that Malcolm frequently expressed being important to him, we felt it most appropriate to present an official version of the project to the world,” it further read.
The two-page post also has a slide that includes artwork for the upcoming posthumous release. Balloonerism will be Miller’s second posthumous album following 2020’s Circles.
In 2018, rapper Mac Miller was reportedly found dead at his California home around noon. Following his passing, his family released a statement paying tribute to him and requesting privacy during the difficult time. “He was a bright light in this world for his family, friends, and fans,” they shared. According to Variety, Miller had struggled with substance abuse in the past. He had also been charged with a DUI following a car accident in May in the San Fernando Valley. Additionally, Miller made headlines when his long-term relationship with Ariana Grande ended.
In addition to his musical talent, Mac Miller gained popularity through his reality show Mac Miller and the Most Dope Family. The show aired for two seasons.
