BLACKPINK's Lisa earns praise for generous compensation to Bangkok shop owners during 'Rockstar' MV filming | K-pop Movie News Filmymeet

BLACKPINK’s Lisa has captured hearts once again, this time not just with her chart-topping solo single ‘Rockstar’, but also with her generous gesture towards shop owners in Bangkok’s bustling Chinatown.
The South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported on July 2 that Lisa, filming her music video on Yaowarat Road, closed the street for three early morning hours in May.Despite the inconvenience being minimal, during a time when most shops are typically closed, Lisa went above and beyond by compensating each shop owner with 20,000 baht (approximately 548 USD). This amount far exceeds Thailand’s average monthly wage, showing Lisa’s generosity and consideration for the local community.
The shoot, which took place from 2 AM to 5 AM, aimed to capture the vibrant vibes of Bangkok’s Chinatown for her music video, released just days later on June 28. Alongside compensating shop owners, Lisa’s team also distributed 1,000 baht (approximately 27.42 USD) to passersby, further showcasing her commitment to supporting the local economy and community during the filming process.
The response to Lisa’s actions has been overwhelmingly positive, with netizens expressing admiration and praise across social media platforms. Comments like “Truly amazing”, “She’s so kind-hearted”, and “She’s the best” flooded online discussions, highlighting the impact of Lisa’s thoughtful gesture.
Simultaneously, Lisa’s ‘Rockstar’ music video broke records, amassing an impressive 32.4 million views on YouTube within its first 24 hours of release, setting a new record as the most-watched solo artist video in that timeframe. This achievement surpassed the previous record holder, Taylor Swift’s ‘Fortnight’, which garnered 19.5 million views upon its April release.
Known for proudly showcasing her cultural roots, Lisa continues to draw attention not only for her musical talent but also for her positive impact on the communities she engages with. Thai media outlet Khaosod English even reported that former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra encouraged local officials to leverage Lisa’s music video as a promotional tool for the street food scene on Yaowarat Road.
